Look for a mid-size sedan that has rear seats that fold down giving access to the trunk. You can
stuff a large full suspension bike in the back of one of those.

On many recent compacts, the back seat folds down and you can get one bike in there with the car
locked. I've done this on several trips (usually to Phoenix, as it happens). Mid-size cars are worse
about the back-seat, though you can often take the wheels off and stash the bike in front of the
back seat. Worst-case, you take the wheels off and stick it in the truck with hopefully not too much
sticking out - bring a couple of bungee cords for this.

Also, some clean rags are a good idea in case you have to wedge it in the back seat (they'll
probably charge you if you bring it in with grease on the seat). I've managed to make this work with
a Ford Taurus and a small Toyota, so its do-able.

I have found that grease cleans up on Ford Taurus seats quite nicely with hotel soap and
washrags. ;-)
