I've had to pull a tubular off, and need to remount it. The condition
is fine, but a bunch of dirt and grime has attached itself to the glue
still on the base tape.
Under the assumption that it's desirable to remove the dirt, what's the
best approach? I'm interested in providing a clean surface to reglue
the tire, but don't wish to inadverdently remove the base tape.

Some acetone and a green scotchbrite pad. Don't use much, scrub it off.
