A TEENAGE boy who had his bike destroyed after being knocked down by a car has been bought a new one
by the driver responsible.
Hobie London, 13, was cycling to school during the morning rush hour when a car hit him on the mini-
roundabout of Wall Road and Constitution Hill.
The Sprowston High School pupil suffered cuts and bruises to his head and his bike was wrecked
almost beyond repair.
The driver of the car stopped to check if he was all right and even offered to walk with him to his
aunt's house nearby.
But about halfway from the house the driver decided to go back to his car, taking Hobie's details so
he could visit that evening and apologise and settle the insurance with the boy's parents.
The man — who drove a silver coloured car — never turned-up. And police said the accident had
never been reported to them.
But just days after the story appeared in the Evening News, the driver arrived at Hobie's home and
met with his mother, Wendy.
Mrs London today said she was pleased the driver — who only gave his name as Kevin — had finally
come forward and said Hobie was even more delighted with his new bike.
“Apparently this guy was knocking on doors up and down the road trying to find our house,†said
Mrs London, of Half Mile Road, Mile Cross.
“So it could have been that he simply didn't know where we lived. He has now come round and
apologised to Hobie and myself and bought him a brand new bike. He has also contacted the police.â€
The 35-year-old mother-of-two added: “The bike is very nice. We had to go down to the shop and
pick the one we wanted. Then the guy went down there and paid for it. It cost £130.â€
The accident happened at about 7.50am on November 25. Police spokeswoman Nina Goad said the accident
had not been logged as a crime as the driver had not intentionally run-over Hobie.
