High Hartsop Dodd then Little Hart Crag (then descend via Middle Dodd)
or the other way round (ascend via Middle Dodd then over to Little Hart Crag and High Hartsop Dodd)?
Or is it no different? Both have very steep ascents?
I've gone up Middle Dodd several times. It is very steep, hard work and the rough tussocks do not help. I've never walked up High Hartsop Dodd and only ever come down it once and though steep I don't remember its being particularly difficult in descent. I think Middle Fell probably would be. I'd prefer to do the easier descent at the end of a walk, much easier on the thighs.

Last time up there from Patterdale I went up Caiston Glen to Scandale Hause, then up onto Red Screes, onto Middle Dodd, back to Scandale Hause, then Little Hart Crag and High Hartsop Dodd. The descent from High Hartsop Dodd was tough on the knees but exhilarating - with almost all-round visibility it was eerily like flying. -- Dave
