    Less than 65% of HRMax.

I wish it was easy to keep recovery ride HRates, I usually have to ride inside to keep my heart rate down. It's a pain when all those hills and what not drive my heart rate right back up!

  4. Leave the HRM at home and just enjoy a really easy ride. Never get out of breath on the ride unless it's from laughing at a joke a buddy told you. That's a recovery ride.

I need an HRM to stay at 65% or below. Getting out of breathe doesn't happen until around 90-95% of max, which is way too high. I can talk fine at 90% max HR, and I suspect most experienced riders can do the same.

The HRM is the only way I've been able to keep to real recovery rides.
