Dunno for sure what the record is.

Zoetemelk had six 2nd's plus one win, three 4th's and one 5th place overall. (Wow!) If this isn't
the record, it's got to be close.

Poulidor, nicknamed "the eternal second" had only three 2nd's, but five 3rd's.

Probably Felice Gimondi who rode during the Eddy Merckx era.
