  1. Need to replace cranks on a Trek 7300fx and want as large of outer ring as
    possible. Stock was 48t and that would be fine. What would the
    'sweet-spot' price/performance be right now. I would think that XT level is
    overkill perhaps, but I want more than entry level hybrid also. Lightweight
    over bulletproof too. A link to an online deal would also be helpful if you
    know of a sale!

    LX is a great deal for the money, infact I would go with LX *OVER* XT
    right now because it includes a steel inner ring (vs. Alum) and Steel
    chainring bolts (vs. Alum). Better durability for ~$100 less than XT.

    I personally would not buy an Octalink though. Still waiting to see how
    the new BB system works out before I buy.
