My little brother is moving across the country to Sacramento, and moving light. One of the last things he said to me before he left was, "What's a good road bike for me to buy when I get to California?" Snappy comeback was, "One just like mine, of course!"
But seriously, I'd rather recommend a good LBS to him, and let him find one he likes. I expect he'll be looking at production bikes, rather than custom. So does anybody have any good (or bad) experiences with an LBS in that area?
Have him try Bob's Cycle Center on Fair Oaks in Rancho Cordova. It is about 10 - 15 miles east of downtown. I have had extremely good service and experiences with the group that work there.
