For health reasons my son (10 yrs, 5' tall) will no longer be able to ride a two wheeled bicycle. I am looking for a trike that will allow him to keep up with his friends and also looks cool. I have been surfing the web but find most of the recumbent trikes to be out of my price range. The two that I have found that are close to affordable are the Trailmate Lowrider (real cool looking but appears quite heavy 80 lb and only 3 speeds) and the EZ-3 Trike by Sun Bicycles. I have been told of another newer trike on the market that is "supposed to be quality but is less expense due to its bolt together rear hub but I can't remember the name. I am interested in any opinions and/or recommendations on these bike or others that might be out there.
If my dad gave me a trike when I was age 10, I would have run away from home.
IF you want a Trike and dont't mind it being an Upright Delta with up to 24 speeds and costing below $250.00, check out the TRIBI Trike Conversion Kit. This will let the fruit of your loins use a Wal-Mart 21 speed MTB like his friends and just add a rear wheel. I used to do them for physically challenged kids, very stable ride and speed does not suffer. The whole kit is only 12 lbs.
Note the Tribi will work on many 2 wheel LWB recumbents.

You may have to hunt for a Tribi, the company is in Quebec and their website goes off and on at the same frequency most people change their socks. The company name is Industrivel of Quebec. I know a bent shop in Toronto who has them and www.cambiecycles.com sells them for a whopping $450. CAD which is too much, the Toronto dealer has them for $415. CAD and I ued to get them for $250.CAD On the Cambie site look under Delta Trikes and see the Quetzal 105 speed with the Tribi as the ass end.
