How much less efficient (in %) is a tire that is under inflated by 50% when riding on a road surface?
The reason I ask is because right now I do most of my riding on the beach with my 700c x 47mm semi slick tires (rated for 75 max psi) at 40 psi but occasionally I run into a thunderstorm and have to head up to the road and high tale it home anywhere from 4 to 12 miles. I was wondering if it's really worth it to stop and pump my tires back to 75 psi?
Is there a formula for measuring the increase in rolling resistance with loss of air pressure?

I know my contact patch doubles with 50% air loss but that doesn't mean it slows me down by 50% does it?
I suppose there are ways of computing this but I believe its nicer to see the measured values that make such an evaluation possible. As you can see, all but the two tubular tires, that have a constant offset due to rim glue losses, these are a family of similar curves that vary only by a scale factor. The slight differences in that arise from tread patterns and they pervert that calculation. The yellow curve does that strikingly.
