He'll be missing out on the "show" and the chanve to share in the prize
money, but at this stage in his career, I don't think that will mean as
much
to him as it would have 10 years ago.
Think Jalabert in 2002. Leaving Zabel off of the team is silly to say the
least. T-Mobile is supposed to be a do-everything team. With the BEST of
luck Jan can win. But one more climber on his team will NOT make a
difference.
What climbers stayed with Jan and Lance in 4 Tours? (Hint - Heras kind of).
Zabel was better on the team than off. Zabel was better advertisement than
not.
Zabel had obviously trained for breakaways this year since his sprint hasn't
gotten any better with time. So that's a great deal of front page news lost
to T-Mobile.
And still Jan will only win with extraordinary luck. I give him about the
same chance as Ivan Basso.
