Simplest yoga for modern generation is to sit on the couch and stare at the
TV. Ancient concentration practices conbined with modern couch slouch
posture! I'm surprised that no new age Guru has yet thought of it! One can
acquire visions of many showbiz Gods/Goddesses after very little practice.
Pressing the remote control is also quite like accupressure treatment, a
special yogic remote has to be designed so that one can use various other
bodyparts to press it. Thus it will become a synthesis of the ancient
practices of accupressure, yoga posture, mind-healing, all calming
concentration and modern convenience all in one!
A few testimonies from happy followers of Simple Spirituality:
Linda Airhead Jones has been practicing for a week. She says this has been
a great stress reliever and is effective almost immediately. She felt
particularly stressed by all the new age techniques, the different kinds of
yogas, and so many confusing techniques. She had trouble making up her mind
before, but now everything seemed so simple. She could barely remember her
phone number and she didn't need the stress of learning about different
postures and different pressure points. She felt a great sense of relief as
soon as she was told that she didn't have to memorize anything, learn
anything, or do anything.
Ramagopal Das Smith highly recommends the new spiritual practice. He claims
to have attained oneness with one of the many bikini clad bouncing beauties
while watching an exercise show. "I have felt very energetic ever since,
all my various doldrums, the blahs are now gone, thanks to this simple
practice." And he believes that he can design a special remote control for
his own 'interpretation' of this spiritual practice. He has plans to market
his special remote controls for men along with a video entitled "Simple
Spirituality for Men."
According to recent studies, simply sitting on the couch decreases stress in
90% of the cases and fewer people have heart attacks sitting on their
couches. Doctor James Dikshit in Bombay has studied the practice and says
that his patients all experience lower blood pressure while concentrating on
a broadcast of their pulse monitor on the TV. The scientific community of
Nasa also endorses this practice and is soon going to incorporate it in its
training for aspiring astronauts.

Monday, January 6, 2003After securing a large following in both India and
abroad, Yog practitioner Bharat Thakur is ready to storm
book racks with an easy-to-follow writing on the
discipline. Attractive in both visuals and print is the
first book, Yog For All (Rs 495), which will be launched
tomorrow by Roli Books. What was the need to push this mellowed-down version of a
Yog guide when several such books are already available
in the market? Answers Bharat, "The complex postures in
the bulky editions often repel many an enthusiast.
Sometimes, inaccessible centres offering an unaffordable
package also put off Yog practitioners." The
distinguishing factor of Bharat's book is the 'body-part'
approach where the asanas will focus on a particular
part. "Why does a woman have to jog miles if she wants to
reduce the flab on her arms? At the same time, the book
will not kill people's desire for walks or physical
exercise," says he.Soon after the book launch, the Yog master will address a
series of talks on different conditions of physical
ailments in the Indian and international context. Yog
After Forty, Yog After Sixty, Yog For Stress, Yog For
Diabetes and Yog For Pregnancy are among the subjects he
will take on.Is it the Dale Carnegie or the Shiv Khera feat that
Bharat aims to emulate in the books market? He says, "The
figures displayed in other Yog books are scary and
difficult to follow. People read the introductory Yog
aasanas and then flip through the book. I will not leave
the reader until he understands each exercise along with
the cautions needed to be taken and the advantages."Bharat has compensated for these 'scary' pictures by
resorting to "simple but equally effective" options.
Adding to the book's value is the reasoning for each
exercise in terms of chemical reactions and activity of
lysomes and toxins that affect a particular body part.
"My approach is quite different from other teachers. I
draw inferences from my studies in bio-mechanics and
physiology."But can the printed directions and figures compensate for
the absence of an instructor? "One, none of the aasanas
is difficult. Two, they can be done by persons belonging
to any age group. If any of the listed exercises leaves a
person in a mess, I shall be responsible for it." Sitting
in a thin net shirt (while the world outside shivers),
the Himalayas-returned Bharat shuns the ever-mushrooming
aerobic centres. "They cause enormous harm, tearing
ligaments and wearing down muscles. Yog is definitely a
safer deal."So, the next time you carry your golf or cricket kit,
don't forget to take along a copy of Yog For Golf or Yog
For Cricket for a warm-up. This is what Bharat is coming
up with: the churned form of aasanas from the Ghiran and
the Shiv Samhita.Read the complete news at:
