Jon_H said: I have been looking around the local bike shops today with an eye for a new bike and with a budget of £500 this is what i came up with.
Felt F90 Giant OCR2 (black) 06 model Trek 1000 Specialized allez. Raleigh Airlite road 300
The Specialized Allez got a good review in last month's C+ when they did an article on budget racers. I have no experience of the bike, though.
Personal prejudice - avoid Raleigh.

I think I will steer clear of the raleigh as it was the heaviest of the bikes i picked up and the down tube was a kind of square looking shape.
thanks for all the pointers

After 23 or so miles on my trusty steel flexable steed this morning on the way back i went via the bike shop and took the giant and trex for a test ride. The Giant felt better at the back end when giving it some, so i have ordered one and await it's delivery and assembly.
Took a bit of getting used to the tiagra shifters as i use the sora version and my thumbs were flapping about madly looking to downshift.
cheers Jon_H
