to move up a class to lessen the risk of further injury.
Yes! The MFW spirit lives on: "I'm injured so I'm going to lift even *more*
weight to compensate!"
Seriously, sorry to hear the back problems aren't going away... good luck
wiht the lifting.
Thanks. What I think is really happening is that I keep reinjuring
it. I didn't have enough time to get ready for the meet since I
injured my back again back in December or January. But, it had mended
fine and I was squatting with no gear whatsoever and had worked my way
up to 405 for a single.
The problem came in when I put a suit on the next week and went up to
455. I was so concerned about hitting depth that I threw myself
forward at the bottom (hit depth though) and had to catch myself by
arching my back severely. This caused me to "pivot" right at the spot
of the old injury which popped my rib out of place again and did some
tissue damage too. It would have been nice to have another month or
so to gradually work into the suit and the heavier weights.
I was weighing 222 at the time and then they came out with a list of
lifters for the meet. There were 5 in the M1 242 and 14 in the M1
220. So, I had a choice of wasting all that money and not competing,
compete and stay at 220 or compete, eat like a pig for the next few
weeks, and move up to the 242s. Well, I already had paid for the
plane ticket and booked the room so I chose to do the latter. It was
an interesting experience to consume all of those massive quantities
of food.
