fears that images of children caught on the camera would attract
paedophiles to the web site.The web cam is positioned above the Channel View Cafe. The project
aims to attract more tourists, allowing people on the internet to view
the seafront and plan a holiday using the website advertisements.But Samantha Dare, of Hawthorn Grove, Exmouth, has written with her
fears about the web cam to the town council, MP Hugo Swire and to
child protection officers at Devon County Council.She said: "The camera on Exmouth seafront is inappropriate and could
breach people's rights."While it is a good idea in theory to show people scenic views of
Exmouth, visitors to the web site are able to view images of scantily
dressed people and children who are unaware that they are being
secretly filmed."It is illegal to publish any images of children without written
consent from their parents."We all know that taking pictures of children in swimming pools can
lead to criminal charges and I feel that this site could soon become
an attraction for paedophiles."She was also worried that the camera would film people "fleeing from
domestic violence" and lead to them being identified.Well, that's it then. If I wan't to beat up a b/f, I'lll just have to
remember not to take him to Exmouth to do it..Mind you, the image of him is going to be about 1/8" high and of such a
resolution that I doubt his mother would recognise him...
