    You don't get it, do you? The importance if UCI points is to get in to the
    best races. THE best race is the Tour. The Tour is more important than the
    UCI and that is why the power struggle has been going on since the dawn of
    the sport. If ASO does not go along, teams will drop out of the UCI en masse
    and become teams that exist only to race in the Tour. They will race in
    non-UCI races just to train (as long as they have a guaranteed ride in the
    Tour).

    You have no idea how much power ASO has. One more tidbit, ASO has enough
    races to have their own year 'round series and would definitely be able to
    support their own league. There is nothing at risk for them.
