Looks like John Taylor messed up his unsubscribe e-mail. Why on Earth
would anybody want to unsubscribe from here in the first place?

Remember that there is a gateway between the forum, the newsgroup and
the mailing list. For someone who is subscribed to the mailing list,
every post that appears here will also land in his inbox. This is
quite a high traffic newsgroup/mailing list, so unless he subscribed to
the digest that's a hell of a lot of e-mail arriving every day. And if
he /did/ subscribe to the digest, that's a hell of a big e-mail to read
every day!

I was perfectly happy using the mailing list 12 years ago, before the
newsgroup existed and when the traffic was much lighter, but I wouldn't
fancy subscribing now. I'm sticking with the newsgroup for reading
(though I've now got used to using the web forum for posting).

My guess is that John Taylor subscribed during the few weeks when the
gateway was down. For those few weeks the traffic on the newsgroup and
mailing list was very light (almost non-existent, in fact). Then the
gateway came back up and he was deluged with the full force of what
he'd signed up for.

Well yeah, I was only joshing. I was in the exact same situation, and I
decided it'd be much easier on me and my copy of Outlook if I just came
on this site once or twice a day instead.
