I had a United trials for three years, and it was freaken awesome.
The problem that killed the uni was (recently) the threads on the hub
stripped, and a crank fell off, so I filed the inside of the crank to
get it closer to the hub (to grip some thread with the nut), and then I
ripped my pedal loose in the crank. So I replaced the cranks with the
same ones (it now occurs to me now to somehow have figured out how to
get steel cranks)...anyway, I welded the cranks on...and took a large
jump, ripping my pedal loose in the crank again (they weren't
crossthreaded if that's what you're thinking). Out of commision.
I have never trued the rim, and it holds strong. The frame has a large
distance away from the wheel (when you compare), so I don't know this
talk about close frames on wheels. I weigh 136.
Upgrade the cranks, don't get the viscount saddle, don't go too
hardcore, don't weld your damn cranks on, it's a lovely cycle. One
footed things aren't the best with the curved frame...
