I didn´t wish to seem to mean that the pace is terribly slow or that
the slow pace in itself is the problem - I didn´t call it jogging or
shuffling:-) - and I´ve found running that slow for warmup, cooldown
or recovery entirely natural and quite enjoyable before.
The problem is that now there is nothing between the "WU" and the "CD"
and nothing to "recover" from, and what´s worse, no desire for
anything from either my body or my mind, and for most of the time it´s
only a rather dull task of putting one foot in front of the other for
the intended duration. This is a situation I´m unfamiliar and helpless
with and it is what makes my running stink.
The odd thing is that I didn´t spend the winter doing Elvis
impressions (or practising for them): from early January to late March
I had a wonderful XC season and, apart from the lack of regular
running, there´s nothing that should make this spring so difficult. I
don´t think I overdid anything, my last race was on March 6th and I
had a proper recovery period, I´m healthy, none of the pieces should
be missing and all wires should be connected...
I´m running, as you guessed, with the old man from Kempele (near Oulu,
Finland) and I´m afraid that it is only his unflappable assurance that
all that running below or around 70%HRmax is achieving something that
keeps me from writing 2005 off.
That, and a deep wish not to let the *entire* group down *again*:-)
Well, groan, mutter, jammer, sigh, thanks for listening - next week
I´ll try to fire all cylinders and do a 30/30 or a 4x4 session (but
definitively not a whole block of them...)!

The (only) good thing about all Elvis impressions is that you don´t
have to see them: whether they´re good or bad, you´ve already seen
them.
And I´m pretty sure you don´t *ever* want to see my Tony Blair:-)
