the hell w/my training week, let me share what today was like running
wise as it was kind of fun. today in nyc's central park there was a
women's only 1/2M. in my training run today i happend to be at a point
where the leader 5 miles into the race was fastly approaching behind
me. i was running fast, she was running fast, i did about 100 meters
adjacent with her just casually talking to her telling her how strong
she looked & to go for it. she passes me.....then about 4 minutes
later the 2nd place woman, this little ethiopian woman comes zooming
adjacent to me...this woman happend to win the philadelphia marathon
last year....and she came up on me where it .happend to be in the
section of where all sorts of race officials were. the race officials
had a freaking fit. they thought i was pacing her. these officials
know me as a club member, i'm black, the ethiopian chick's obviously
black....they just assumed i was a teammate or something....and pacing
her. not the case at all...the officials were screaming and demanding
that i stop running.
my own freaking running club...WTF? I stopped...and told the damn main
screamer "I DON'T EVEN KNOW THE CHICK"....."I'm just running".......
About 4 minutes later on the course....no officials in sight....the 3rd
place runner approaches from behind...just as the "hilly" part of the
course is ahead. we're at a 6:35 pace.....(i'm running hard).....and I
tell her she looks strong.....and asked her if she wanted a pace. she
nodded, said nothing. i then cranked it up to a 6:30 pace through the
hills....there were about 2 points where she was falling back....she
was on her miles 7-9....I was only on my miles 3-5....but she came
through strong.
i did not know what the hell i was doing other than scoping my watch to
stay at 6:28-30 through the hills.....and saying encouraging stuff to
this woman. as we approached the final hill....i let her come
adjacent and best me to the top and then told her goodbye and go all
out and kick ass......wished her luck.
man that was fun today. i don't know these women, doesn't
matter...they were runners and going all out. it's a lot of run to
root on racers when you can relate to everything their going through in
every stride. next week i am going for a PR in the 1/2M. i'm going to
need every friggen ounce of encouragement from every random person on
the course. it was fun to be a random person for these runners
today....for me....
