3rd week post-Marathon. Another light week, running only on grass. Plan to increase gradually, rebuild the base, and think about how I can run a faster marathon....
Mon: no running Tue: 8k easy on grass. Bike 20' Wed: 8k easy on grass. Bike 30' Thu: no running. Fri: 11.5k easy on grass. Bike 35' Sat/Sun: no running.
anthony, curious.....when you say you ran on "grass"....do you literally mean that? i ask because i've never heard of any kind or form of running path of grass. are you just going to open area an blazing your own trail? for example, you say you ran 11.5k on "grass". is this numerous loops in a park?
i've been in trail races that included 300 meters of running on grass.....but i can't imagine running 6+ miles on grass. i dislike grass running (poor friction/feel w/surface) i like feeling earth, planting and propelling. ironically i find it more difficult to momentarily "plant" in grass.....

Depends on the type of grass and how short it is mowed. Around here bermuda grass is popular. It is often mowed down to 1 inch in length (like a putting green). If the ground isn't too damp and spongy, then this is a great surface for running. But if it gets too long it can really bog you down. In a way, this could be a good thing. It stresses your body in a slightly different way.

Yes - I have a loop of about 1300m which I run. The grass is not long and I really enjoy the feel. I started running on the grass about a year ago after a foot injury. My (Ethiopian) coach says it's very good for the legs, as the uneven surface stresses different muscles and parts of the legs. I run very little on hard surfaces now as I usually ride my bike to and from the park where I run on the grass.

Running on the grass probably does slow me down a little (on the training runs that is, I don't believe it has a carry-over effect to slow my racing down), but that doesn't worry me. Major benefit is protecting against injury, and added bonuses are pleasant surroundings and longer shoe life.
