Greetings, rec.runners! Please tell us about your training
    week and goals.

    Since you ask...

Sunday, rode my bike 30 mins. Felt pretty good.

Monday, did a short conditioning hike with some friends. Lace boots, and
charge up the trail as fast as possible, for about 35 mins. Went about 1.5
miles, and 1000' vertical. That really did a number on my legs, but felt good
    overall.

Tuesday, 2 mi run. It ended up being 2.4 or so, in 24 minutes. This week I'm
doing 7 minutes run, 1 minute walk. Still feeling yesterday's hike.

    Wednesday, off.

Thursday, 2 mi run. 19 minutes.

Friday: My shoes have been bothering me the last 10 days or so (walking only).
They're pressing on the top of my right foot. So I stopped by the running
store, where they showed me how to relace them to hopefully fix this problem.
It didn't completely solve it, but the guy thought that might've been because
my foot is now sensitive there. I'm going back to my old shoes for the 10k
    next weekend.

Saturday (today): Ran 4.8 miles, the longest I've ever run. Took about 46
minutes. I'm happy with that pace. My legs are tired, but no annoying little
pains. I did have minor shin splints around mile 2, but that went away. The
bottom front of my toes are a little sore because my old shoes are a little on
the large side. No blisters though, so I'm not worried. I'm quite excited
about how good this run felt. The initial route I drew on the map was actually
too short. Usually it's too long.

In my early days of running (a couple years ago) I had a brief period
of minor shin pain. Read that "clawing" with your toes can cause this,
noticed I was doing it, found it easy to stop, and have never again
been bothered. The part about your toes being sore as well as your
shins leads me to wonder if this might not help you as well:

Interesting. I'll be sure to pay attention to that on my next run. Thanks!
