When my dad's in one of his nostalgic moods and doesn't feel like telling one of his dreadful National Service tales (Suez - [not] funny how we never learn any lessons at all) he enjoys going misty-eyed over memories of cold mornings on his plumbing apprenticeship when he used to toast Golden Syrup sandwiches by holding them on a fork next to the brazier.
