for the trials version, why dont you make the gussets like way long,
it'd stabalize the seatpost more.

My brother had the same idea to my frame thingy, which we might build
an aluminum alloy frame, probably would be REALLY strong.

If the frame was slightly wider than usual, you could build stronger
and bigger gussets on the underside of the frame, it'd also increase
the space you'd have for the top gussets, and foot placement area.

The trials version should be a round crown probably, it doesnt really
matter much.

actually, heres my idea. Take a Nimbus II frame, and cut the top little
dealies off the arms, the things that stick up. Weld the tubing to mimic
the look of that, and you'd have the frame i'd love. Make that out of Ti
please lol.

Just cut the top things off of the crown, and you'd have a pretty
strong frame, add a few gussets like a kh, and you'd have a strong uni.
It'd be sweet to build that out of Ti.

... and there you have yourself a copy of the triton sponge!

These designs are interesting to look at but I don't get the
meaning/point of all the complicated jaggedy crown etc... unless it's
actually stronger? What we really need is an engineer of someone to
actually tell us what's strong, and what's not. Otherwise it just
sounds as if people are wanting a gusset here there and everywhere!

what if were talking aluminum? then welds make it weaker.

edit: if it really depends on it, then just run a few lines over it,
and grinding it down, that'd make it way stronger in that area if were
talking Ti. You could just lay a bunch of welds down in that area, and
you'd make it better.

But, were getting into heat treating now. If we are talking welding a
lot, it'd make the frame easier to snap, and not really bend. We
discussed this in the experimental frame idea thread. The more heat you
add to an area (such as more and more welds, even though spaced out and
cooled), the more brital it gets. I'd rather go for doign something
crazy, and bending my frame a tiny bit, instead of having a kh
malfunction and snap the seattube off.

Exactly, and this is why I'm pointing out we need someone who actually
knows what they're talking about  ie not many of us.

But -we- clearly aren't looking at the responses to whether it should
be Ti or Al.

The point being that it makes it look alittle different and somewhat
exotic. I wouldn't say the crown is so much jagged, as it is curvy.
That's just the way it came out on paint. However it does form a peak
on each side of the crown, I think it should help in foot on crown
tricks. Just look at the crown and imagine what it would be like to
place your foot on it.

True, but is that a simple design solution?

imo, my idea would look way cool, and would work way cool, and would be
way strong.

Actually I believe it would. It looks more complex than it really is,
especially to somone who doesn't understand metal fabrication. However
I won't the know the full extent of the labour until I talk to my
friend about it.

It's hard to explain but imagine the triton fork legs, with a totally
different crown and that's alot like what I'm thinking of designing.

Meh, what you described is VERY simliar to the triton. You want to have
a nimbus 2 frame without the top nubs sticking out. That's pretty much
what the triton is, they just sloped the top to a 45.

However I don't completley disagree with your idea. My idea is very
much like your own, just with a different countour on top and added
reinforcements to the bottom.

I'm more than willing to listen to an explanation as to why my design
won't work, or for that matter why any design that's come forth won't
work. However what I will not have is a bunch of people arguing over
what they think is good and what they think is bad.

I'd like to keep this thread as positive and professional as possible

yeah.. sorry bout arguing lol.

My idea is SIMILAR to the triton, but DOES NOT include that top cap
thing, as if you just took a nimbus II and hacked off the top 2 things,
and welded a cap over it. This is actually a pipe cut at a 45 degree
angle sandwiching to a 45 degree angle on the crown. And, you could end
up almost using just one single peice of pipe for the frame, and just
cut the pipe at a 45 degree angle, and weld it together liek that. I
think it'd work like that.
