    Cheapo MTB with a 14-28 will have a freewheel, so to get the 11-30 it'll
    need an entire back hub/wheel. Which makes it a bit more than 30 quid.

    That's true for the 11-30, but Shimano do make a couple of 11-up freewheels
    now: an 11-34 and an 11-28:
