Having had one heart attack, one stroke, and having had 7 balloon
angioplasties, resulting in 4 stents, and most recently (NOV 2002) one stent
placed in the right iliac due to a tear in the artery causing a blockage and
loss of circulation in that leg, I am now having episodes of swelling in my
feet and hands. I also experience several times per day a numbness and
weakness in my left side mostly affecting my leg. My family Dr finally gave
me a prescription for the water gain when I jumped 15 pounds in two weeks.
Should I be concerned about the water gain being a result of the beginning
of heart failure? And should I be concerned the numbness is a result of
another blockage? (It is becoming increasingly difficult to walk on the left
leg as it becomes painful after 1/2 a city block)

I would definitely want to see a cardiologist very soon if you are
accumulating water and have had heart problems in the past. As you say, this
could be a sign of CHF and there are lots of medications that can help. Also
exercise, with arms if legs are not possible, and low salt helps.
