i have a pair of BMX 5 spoke wheels (you know the type I mean). I also have a paid of drum brake hubs. There is a central circle in the wheels the same size as the hubs so my plan is cut the old bearings and stuff out of the wheel and "fasten" the hubs inside. I figure this will give me a cheap pair of offroad wheels.
It comes down to how od I fix the hubs into the wheels? I was thinking of chopping up fibre glass, mixing it with resin and bunging the lot in there. Refinements include cutting the hub in half so it can be put in one bit form each side, do it a few days apart to allow full setting.
Getting the hubs concentric and co-planar with the wheels will be a problem, made worse by cutting the hubs in half. Although I admire the innovative spirit of the idea, I recommend the more pedestrian route of selling the five-spoke wheels, and using the proceeds to buy suitable rims and spokes for your brake-hubs.

If the 5 spoke wheels are the poly/plastic variety, and you are even in the least bit aggressive with them, you run a very strong chance of folding them over like a taco. I know of three builders that used them (2 machined 1/2" bearing inserts and the third machined 1/2" inserts with disk brake mounts) and swapped them out for normal 20" spoked wheels after having them fail, or flex to the point of nearly failing. They're fine for a kid's trike/bike where the rider is relatively light, but an adult's weight plus a hard corner = overloading on them.
