I think this is less of an issue with the media, government laws etc, rather
than that particular Newsagency squeezing more performance out of their
employees for the same amount of money.
It's all open to negotiation.
If you're doing significantly more work, and incure more cost before the job
changes (petrol, vehicle wear and tear etc) ask for more money.
If they don't give it to you, you change jobs. This is the way it's always
been, is, and will probably always will be.
If someone else wants to do the job _at_a_loss_, that's fine with me, as
long as I don't have to do it. (and I don't have to do it, and neither do you).
The fact that your son is a minor, and they're probably trying more with him
than with an adult (because they can get away with it) is largely irrelevant.
Your son is still very much allowed to negotiate an increase in pay to hire
you and your services (car and driver) to do the job required of him by his
employer.
