Its driving me crazy and im sure my neighbours around my local area
feel the same. Is it a case of just given them a good clean (the

    rims)

or is there something that can be bought to put on them?

"Toe-in" has always cured this for me. That is, putting the pads at a
slight angle so that the pads touch the rim at the front first. This
shouldn't be too exaggerated - when setting them up, put a piece of
card at the back of the pad to create the angle. That's all that's
    needed.

Of course, the pads then wear down at the front slightly faster than
the back and eventually they're flat again and the squeal comes back.
    Then repeat the process...

You can get pads made of a material that discourages squealing. I can't
remember the make, but a quick google should find it - it has been
    discussed here before.

    Steve.
