Dont know about legalities, but descents from the ridge are usually
governed by getting through the trees. I no longer have the mapd to
this area so I cannot give specifics, but both trips to Tarren Hendre
required descents to the north, and both times I found easy ground and
ways through.

Tarren Hendre is quite a pleasant hill, and the ridge to Taren y
Gesail is a fine walk. An OS 1:25k map should help unravel a way down
to th forest road network.

Not sure if we are taking about the same Tarren Hendre. Looking at my map,
there is a path from Tarren Hendre that goes south then southwest over
Mynydd Esgairweddan to Tarren cwm fferol. I then intend to go to Pen
Trum-gwr and then try to get back down to Dolgoch, which would be desending
north, although having walked south first from Tarren Hendre.

Coudn't find Taren y Gesail on my Anquet map.

Anyway Richard, thanks for the advice. I am sure we will come good in the
end.
