Perdu said:I'm up to around 4 miles a day, walking and light jogging. Been doing
it for 2 months and it's great. My whole body feels great. Except for
my feet. I've always had sensitive soles, but the ball of the foot is
almost raw in pain. Just not used to exercise.I've spent some money on reasonably good walking shoes, but still the
pain is there. Apparently what I own is not good enough. I had bough
Dr. Scholl's walking inserts and it got slightly better. Since I love
the walking in the hills by the lake and the ocean waterfront, I want
to invest money in doing it well and without pain.Anyone has good experience with buying some better quality shoes for
walking? I'd hate to spend $100 or more for some Nike [censored] that will
make no difference. What are the ideas on this?
Hi Perdu,
It sounds to me like what I have. I've had it for years, it's actually a
very common foot problem called plantars fascitis (no idea how to spell it,
but it's pronounced fasheeitis. Being a waitress and working retail
inflamed it for me. I'm betting you need orthotic inserts custom made for
yourself and unfortunately they cost at least $350 Cdn. But believe me it's
well worth it. Ask your doctor to recommend a good podiatrist and go see
them. Also ice your foot after a walk, or anytime it hurts, that's very
important. Go buy one of those gel ice bag thingies.
Common symptoms are:
pain in soles and/or upper instep
after rest when you get up again it hurts like crazy
and at it's worst, the most painful time can be your first steps in the
morning after you get up.
Your feet are important, please don't hesitate to see a podiatrist because
once you get it inflamed to a certain point - it takes a long time to make
it go away.
Good luck,
Monica
