On the reverse of the baseplate, you should find two letters
"stamped", either near the bearing or on the red arrow portion of the
baseplate. These are, I believe, a date and region code - the needles
are balanced for different global areas due to magnetic inclination.
Silva may be able to tell you more if you can find the letters.
