I've got the same model!
bought for me by my parents in 1971 for a school trip, a week long
outward bound course in the Lake district.
I still use it today.

I used to have one of those, I lost it in Scotland years ago unfortunately,
I bought it in the early 70's.
The previous one, which I still have, also has an aluminium bearing ring
but the base of the ring is not see through and it is induction damped..
