We have snow everywhere and I am thinking how to run sensibly.
The first priority for me is not to get an injury. The second is run in reasonable comfort.
I have military style brown Danner boots, which are high and waterproof. They go above ankles. If I run in them then, at least, my feel will be dry. They are super comfortable and are similar to real military black Danner boots.
i believe this will be a big mistake and may lead to injuries. it is better to run barefoot when there's snow on the ground. the snow acts as an insulator and after the first mile or so you won't feel any pain in your toes.

I'd like to hear some opinions regarding running in such boots. I can settle for running much more slowly, which would be about same in terms of energy spent due to boots and snow.

The recruits at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot do their runs in running shoes. They learned years ago about the damage of running in combat boots. The idea is to train the recruits to get into condition over 73 days for their final test of endurance, teamwork, strength and smarts called The Crucible. At least that was the process 3 years ago.
