But on a recent run, I finished with a hard, fast windsprint (similar
to running in ultimate) and I could feel my trainers brushing my calf
    on nearly every single step.

What's going on? Is this increasing my risk of injury? Any guesses
on why this brush over issue emerges at high speeds, but not at low?
    Thanks for any advice...

When I run slowly, I get some brushing at the ankle level, and when running
fast, there's a little band up around my calf level, too.

It was that way when I was younger and faster (33 minute 10k), and it's that
way now that I'm older and slower.

The front part of my foot rotates out a bit on the leg kick, and the heel
goes in slightly, brushing the opposite leg from time to time. Some world
class runners have a foot that rotates in or out on the kick. I don't think
    it's significant.

If your foot is not meeting the ground properly, orthotics might be a help
(in injury prevention as well as efficiency). I've worn them since I
    started running.
