Also, what about running in the evening.

    That's when I run most of my short runs - it's a post-work wind-down,
reinvigoration for working at home at night.

    I suppose that running before
bedtime is not helpful to falling asleep, is that correct?

I do have a little bit of trouble with sleeping but more with recovery
if I do a 2-hr run (my longest) starting at about 6:30pm (evening race
times), but I've gotten better over time with this (or I had been when
I'd been training that way). But my normal evening runs are not an issue
with sleeping and probably make me sleep better because of the
relaxation. I sometimes have a 2-hr hard cross-training class on Sat
mornings (7-9am) in the winter, and I can come home, shower, eat, and
fall asleep by 11am if my schedule permits. Many people run later in the
evening than I do and have no problems sleeping.
