Long story short, a few miles in I was riding down some beautiful trail at a pretty good clip when, well, all of a sudden my bike was horizontal, feet still clipped in, arms stretched out superman-style.
At first my face hurt worst, but that quickly subsided and my left wrist took over. When the last rider of the group caught up, I was rocking myself fetal position at the side of the trail.
Yowch. Been there, done that. Good to hear it wasn't worse.

in the end, my friends came back and took turns either pushing bikes or leapfrogging rides -- ride one bike up, jog back, ride other bike -- as i hiked back. that part sucked, but good to have friends take such good care of me.
Indeed. Ride with these folks again. They're the good ones.
You didn't fail. You just paid the price of admission.

it was just some wordplay w/'pass' ... i do wish i'd seen the rest of the trail, though, and had the chance to ride up what I'd come down. guess that will have to be next time.
