I've heard of these people Ross and Ern - I stayed at Paradise resort on Mae
Num beach for 3 months last year and the english guy who runs a bar across
the road from the entrance to paradise resort at Mae Num was telling me
about them.
He's from New Zealand she's a local girl, been married 20 odd years seems
they saw the good time coming for Samui and with her family bought up the
local land cheap before things kicked off.
they have no children and only come to the island for a month or so each
year, looking inland (South) from the entrance of Paradise on the main road
I'm told they have 100's of Ha along the hillside but refuse to sell or
develop it being upset with the unrestricted developments that are already
happening at Chewang and Barn Po, and dont want the same thing to happen to
Mae Num.
the english bar owner told me this guy Ross stops in for a drink with
friends when hes in town they stay with family in the village, very down to
earth, spends their time on Samui maintaining the land, grow fruit and nut
trees. have rental houses and shops around the island and farms on the
mainland, he and his wife work as farm labourers in New Zealand,
they're something of an oddity among the local expats and quite well known,
I'm sure if you were on the ground in Samui youl'd find them easy enough but
the way I understand it you will need to propose something special to
interest them,

let me add my spoke to this
yes ross and ern and their family own a lot of land on the island , I rent
one of their house's and one of the familys shops in bophut, I've tried to
buy both for years, some of the family are keen to sell but ross ern and
the older family members have control and won't sell
last october ross and ern told me they'd be selling some of the houses over
the next few years and as a long term tenent I'd get a good deal, which I
believe as I have 2 neighbors who have leased land from them and built
houses for next to nothing compared to others in this area, my own leases
are far below market value.
they say its becoming too much trouble for the family to look after the
rental properties ,they were disapointed that none of the younger family
members were interested in the work, these people are not into the money,
they pick fruit around australia for a living, when theyre not growing fruit
and coffee hereern told me she'd like to keep all the hill land up the back of mae num as a
public reserve but doesn't trust the thai government not to develop it , so
they don't know what they're doing with it yet ,
I walked up there a few months ago its about 5km to the top and a good
road all the way from the ring road , great views I see new survey pegs
everywhere, you might be in at the right time. I'd love a block up there
myself,
I'll pass your email to the family.
