  1. I couldn't keep any bandage on my knee or elbow--too much bending. I
    was told a trick that seemed to work to prevent a hard scab from
    forming. I don't think scabs used to be such a problem for me, but as I
    have gotten older I have tended to form hard scabs that pull or break
    and I end up bleeding again, so preventing a scab seemed to me to be a
    useful purpose of those modern bandages that wouldn't stay on.

    The method is to wash the road rash two to four times a day with
    peroxide. This actually dissolves the scab, so for the first few days
    it stings. Then apply antibiotic ointment. With no bandage the
    antibiotic ointment rubs off fairly fast, but the peroxide dissolves the
    scab that forms in between.
