You don't have to reinsert the star nut,All you have to do is drive
it down

Thank you for the information. I took a socket, drove the nut down and thereafter cut the fork. Did not know that I could drive the nut. He did take at least a 16 ounce hammer and probably 50 blows to get it moving down. Thank you again.
