Used it this weekend, and as a trial loaded up 50lbs --FAR FAR more than I
would normally carry these days (I have been obliged to carry 100+lbs
before, but that's another story) on the basis that if it was comfortable
with that weight then my normal 28lbs would be a doddle.
I have never used a more comfortable pack. I covered 2 x 30Km with no
problems and in superb comfort. OK it was 'flatland' walking in the East
Anglian fens and along the Nene Way, but what the hell, 50lbs is 50lbs! The
various adjustments were versatile and very positive - also once set they
seemed to stay in place without constant adjustment which I have found to be
the bane of some packs.
Enough of the pack.
A site to camp. Not too far from the Nene Way and into the venerable old
county of Rutland lays the village of Whissendine. Near that village,
(which has to excellent pubs!!!!!) is a small 'wild' campsite. 'Wild' in
that it is very rural and fairly isolated but so beautifully managed by Sue
and Ian that it has to be worth a visit. AND they positively welcomd
backpackers. It is ESSENTIAL to pre-book as the place is so very popular.
Facilities are discrete but second to none.
This is not a 'truly wild' site but is certainly the next best thing.
