Per Dave Thompson:
Quoted message said:I see that you were at Hickam. We're about the same age (1year
apart) so I'd wager that we were there at the same time. I was in the 1502nd
FMS, 1961 thru '64, took a local discharge and lived in Hawaii 'til '72.
Geeze!.... also took a local discharge - graduated from UH, which I started in
night school at Hickam.
But I only lived there until August of '71 - not too long after graduating.
Lived most of the time on St Louis Heights Drive, some up in Manoa Valley, some
down in The Jungle.
I was a crypto repairman in the Plan-55 building. Spent most of my offtime
surfing/living in a group apartment in The Jungle. Still remember coming off
swing shifts, walking into the apartment in my fatigues carrying my little
toolbox and finding the party was over already - couples passed out on the
floor, empty bottles everywhere...
I got started cycling when I was in a fifth-year industrial arts teaching
program at the UH. Facilities were spread out over Honoruru and I used to spend
a couple hours every day racing city traffic go get from class-to-class.
