Stability with the PR and any other stove mounted on top of the canister can be improved drastically if you prepare a 2 -3" deep hole in the ground, the same diameter as the canister, for it to sit in.
There are obvious limitations re rocky ground and you cant give the canister a jolly good shake when its getting low, but it works most of the time for me.

From the manual: "DO NOT use any windscreen with the stove. Any windscreen, including a standard MSR windscreen, may cause the canister to explode."
I don't know if that applies to the above suggestion, but it's certainly something to consider.

I don't know if that applies to the above suggestion, but it's certainly something to consider.
Lawyer's talk. It's to protect the company against lawsuits. A windscreen might cause the stove to explode if it surrounded the stove completely and allowed the canister to get too hot. The key is to have a windscreen that is open on one side (or one quarter, as screens are usually circular) so that air can reach the canister. If the stove is run for more than a few minutes you can touch the canister occasionally to check that it's cool. I've used a windscreen like this for decades and have never had a canister get more than slightly warm. Canisters have got much hotter in sunshine without the windscreen!
Without a windscreen stoves like the Pocket Rocket are just about useless in anything above a light breeze. And even a light breeze will increase boil times and fuel usage.
All that said I wouldn't part bury the canister in the ground or pile stone or other objects around it for stability.
