I'd want to see it to make the call, but first and foremost, I'd take action
pretty soon, like now. You don't want to have it catch on the pedal, cleat or
shoe because it could lead to a crash. I've seen it happen. I'd see if
bringing it in with the set screw can be done without interfering with the
shifting. You could take it back to the shop and say WTF? I have seen cages
bent to fix such problems but wouldn't do that first.
Heh, what I've been doing is riding around in the middle chainring. Since
I'm also trying to keep cadence high, it's actually working out ok.
I was so happy that they (probably accidently) "fixed" the creak/click I
was getting from the saddle, I couldn't really get too upset about the new
'problem'. Still, it is probably a good idea be able to use the 52-tooth
ring, lol.
When you say you'd want to see it, what sort of thing would you look for.
IOW, if it's just an obvious little ripple in the metal, would it be ok to
take two pair of pliers and straighten that out? Uh, do they sell just the
part that sits over the chain ring separately? If they did, I could see
asking the shop for a replacement, and I'd pay for parts if they put it on.
They're pretty nice guys.
