I have an older set of these I nabbed off'n eBay some years ago - more of a
saddlebag type - used them for a grocery run tonight - can't think of any
reason to buy better for my needs:

Quoted message said:So, I rode to work on Friday, or at least as much of the route as I
can--I live on the wrong side of a large river from where I work and
there is no bicyclable way to cross, so I racked up the bike, drove to
the first park-and-ride lot on the other side, and biked in the
remaining 21 miles. I had my necessary bits (lunch, change of clothes)
in a plastic bag bungee-corded to my cargo rack, which was expedient but
sub-optimal. Later that day I stopped in at the LBS (which has had
inventory clearance sale signs out for a couple of weeks) and picked up
a cheap set of panniers (at $20 counting the sale).Given that some sets sell for $200, what sort of functionality am I
missing out on here?Rob Dean
