I've just got back into cycling and have decided that I want some pannier
    bags for my mountain bike.

I checked around a Halfords and it seems that I need a pannier rack (19.99)
and some bags for 19.99. 40 pounds is a bit more than I want to spend at
this stage so, does anybody know about anything going cheap at the moment?
I really want Lidl or Aldi to have a bicyle themed sale in the next couple
    of weeks...

If it can't be done for less than that then fair enough, but I wondered if
there were any special offers in progress at the moment that could perhaps
shave a few pounds off the total price?

Edinburgh Bicycle (www.edinburgh-bicycle.co.uk) will sell you a Boh Yeuh
rack for around £12 and their own panniers at £20.00 ea. If you don't
need a pair of panniers, this will get you on the road for around £30,
although the Halfrauds rack does seem pretty good.

Sling over panniers (If you really just want something cheap to start
with), are in their hundreds on eBay and are probably mostly the Lidl /
    Aldi ones being resold.

Again, I bought a couple of Lidl panniers a few weeks ago for a tenner
each. They are not throw-overs but clip-on type, someone elsewhere
suggested they were similar to the EBC panniers? So far they have proved
tough and waterproof, again I would recommend them. In comparison to a
rucksack they are like night and day, looking back the rucksack (even
with only a small lunchand my phone in there) was a right bind.

Forgot about those. I was looking at them in Lidl, but since I already
have four panniers I didn't see any point in picking them up. They are
very similar to the EBC ones.

    Thanks for the response.
