IMO, someone who is willing to break a government's anti-drug law is probably also willing to break the UCI's anti-drug rules. Government laws are a step up from UCI rules.

I'd argue that he may have more respect for cycling's policies and his competitiors. His hit of ecstasy didn't hurt anyone else, didn't compromise a competition. Given Jan's proven respect for sportsmanship I think that he'd have more respect for cyling rules.

I agree... especially considering the only way you're going to prison for life on a drug-related criminal offense is for trafficking and/or murder. You can get a lifetime ban for performance enhancing doping after the first few postitives.
I also agree about the difference in terms of respect. Taking recreational drugs *in moderation* hurts no one. Taking performance enhancing drugs potentially takes money out of your competitors pockets, not to mention the glory of winning.

What BS logic, [censored] man. Which has a higher cost, breaking the government laws or the UCI? When it comes to users and especially first timers, the cost is *much higher* breaking the UCI rules. We are not talking about drug distribution. You obviously know very little about the European drug laws. Germany is not Turkey and most European countries have a very liberal approach to dealing with drug users more in line with California than with even most other states in the US. I don't even think Ullrich was charged in Germany so ask yourself the question again, fool.
