Most people consider the death of innocents in the Dresden fire bombing to
    be something worth mourning.

It was war, it's got a reason, but you still mourn for the loss of life.

No, you don't. You honor your own dead for their sacrifice, and you
celebrate the death of the enemy.

    Not enemy non-combattants.

It's actually even possible to feel compassionate about the death of
anemy combattants if you try hard enough. For example, in the first
Desert Storm I recall Saddam sending fresh troops into the field against
our airborne troops and we slaughtered them as fast as he'd send them.
They were all really young, i mean, he'd already killed off all his old
guys fighting Iran, and they just showed up to die where Saddam told
them to die. It was no big victory of ours, it felt more like suicide
    by cop.

I can't believe I've got to give compassion lessons to a Jewish
pediatric nurse. C'mon, you've got a heart. Get a cat scan, it'll show
up. (I'm not sure Larry's would.)
