My ex-husband had to take niacin following his heart attacks. The regular stuff was fierce, but they have a time-release version now that's much more comfortable.
Has your husband checked with his doctor (or pharmacist) to make sure the time-release version is okay? I got a blurb from my doctor about niacin which says in part:
"This form may produce less flushing, but it is _not_ recommended for routine use because of increased risk of liver problems. This form is not recommended by the FDA for treatment of cholesterol disorders."
