  1. Clare and I are off to the Lake District this Saturday for a week, and we
are after a little info on one of our possible routes. One option is
walking from Little Town over Robinson, then across to Knott Rig and Ard
Crags via High Snockrigg and Newland Hause.

Now, my question is, anyone know if the path is reasonable down to Newland
Hause from the northern end of Buttermere Moss? Looked up at Moss Force
many times going down to Butteremere and seen people walking to the
waterfall, but never seen anyone going all the way to Butteremere Moss.

    Cheers folks.

We walked up to Robinson that way once. Can't remember anything about what
it was like underfoot but I don't think my girlfriend complained too much so
it can't have been too bad. I think we did a short circuit coming down by
Hassness Gill with a bit of road walking.

  3. Was up that way 10 days ago. Coming down from Robinson was a little tricky
in the frozen snow, but nothing really to worry about. Once on the moss it
was surprisingly dry, presumably because all the water was frozen.
I was heading for Newlands Hause, and picked up the top of Moss Force as a
descent route. Wouldn't really advise this. It is a bit scrambly over wet
grass and scree at the top. Once down into the gill everything is allright,
    with a decent path.
A better descent would be to carry on past the head of the gill, over an
indistinct shoulder, swing right, and you'll pick up a path which leads down
to the hause. This path is not to easy to pick up, especially if the weather
is less than perfect. If you are happy being off the beaten track then
you'll have no difficulties, but everything is just a bit vague on the
ground, so map reading ability could be useful.
Track over Knott Rigg is a doddle.

Cheers. I don't think we will have a problem with the snow next week
......... it is expected to turn mild, and the thaw as already set in on the
    remaining snow.

Regards the path you mention down to Newland Hause. On my Harvey map
(Anquet) there is a path shown going down a couple of hundred metres to the
left of the waterfall, but the OS 1:25,000 only shows the path from near the
top downwards. I will have the route in my GPS, so that will be a
confidence check. And, don't mind a bit of 'off-piste' walking to get down.
If it is clear, then life will be easier being able to see the route up to
    Knott Rigg from the hause.

    Thanks for that.

The advantage of coming down is that, providing it is clear, there is a
reference point in Knot Rigg and the path up from the hause. The path on
the Harvey Superscale continues from the west of Moss Force in a straight
line up to Knot Rigg summit. Good transit line. My main concern was if the
path was reasonable to pass. Long detour if we get there and it proofs
    difficult to descend!
